very saxophone connoisseur knows that the most sought-after instruments, those with the richest, mellowest and most enveloping sound, are those made in the 1950s and up to the early 1960s. To their undisputed intrinsic qualities must be added the aura that these models possess, an aura that has taken on almost mythical proportions because they were played during these decades by some of the greatest musicians of the 20th century, who have left us wonderful and incomparable sonic traces.
Instruments made after this time, when production methods moved from manual to machine production, had a less interesting sound quality, so people continued to play (and seek) the sound that had been produced earlier. Over the years, this emotional gap widened as the saxophones produced differed from the mythical model, resulting in this category of instrument being at the top of every musician’s wish list.
